Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy for individuals, children and young people.

About  Me...

My name is Rosie and I am an integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and hypnotherapist.

I live in Tilehurst, Reading with my husband and two teenage children.

I trained as a Primary School teacher in 2001 and taught for nearly 22 years.

I have taught children between the ages of 4 and 11 years, but have a particular affinity with Early Years and Key Stage 1.

I decided to train as a counsellor and hypnotherapist when my youngest child started school, as I felt that I had reached a point in my life where I had the maturity and life experience to be able to support and help others.

I believe that our mental health is just as important as our physical health, and that to lead better and happier lives, both of these areas of health need to be balanced and in harmony.

I am committed to providing counselling, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space from my private practice in Tilehurst, Reading.

I also offer online counselling, through Google Meet, and telephone counselling.

I work with adults, young people and children from the age of 5 upwards.

I offer short term or long term therapy.

Alongside my Private Practice, I also work as a counsellor for a charity which provides support to children and families around the Thames Valley who have been affected by crime or abuse.

Please get in touch if you think I can help you.

I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation to find out more about you and understand your needs and expectations of counselling or hypnotherapy.

My professional qualifications include:

  • Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice – Prof.Dip Psy C.
  • Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling – Ad Dip PC
  • Diploma in Counselling Skills and theory – Dip CST
  • Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Counselling Skills – Cert Hyp CS
  • Certificate in Hypnotherapy for Children - The Hypnotherapy Academy

I am an Accredited member of both the National Counselling Society and the National Hypnotherapy Society and abide by their Professional and Ethical standards.

My Counselling Approach:

I work in an integrative, person-centred way, which means that the client is at the centre of everything I do.

What is an Integrative Counsellor?

Everyone’s mind is unique. From how they process information to how they perceive the world, to their personality: none of us are exactly the same. This is why there are several forms of counselling and therapy.

I believe that because of our uniqueness, there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. I therefore get to know you and what works for you, taking into account you as an individual and your circumstances. I may then decide to use one particular approach or more likely, I will use elements of different approaches to help you explore and find ways to cope with your issues.

I have listed some of the different types of therapy I may use with you below:

Person Centred Therapy:

“It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried…”

Carl Rogers

At the heart of my work is Person Centred Therapy.

This type of therapy is guided completely by you, the client. Put simply, you talk and I listen.

Person Centred Therapy is non prescriptive, supportive, respectful and non-judgmental. You, the client, decide what we talk about and how far we go with this: I am completely led by you. You can digress or change the topic and we will work at your own pace and discuss whatever you feel comfortable with.

Sessions are open ended and allow you to take the time that you need.

Psychodynamic Counselling:

“Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.”

Sigmund Freud

This type of counselling is based on the idea that past experiences have a bearing on experiences and feelings in the present, and that important relationships, perhaps from early childhood, may be replayed with other people later in life.

I help clients to understand long-standing conflicts from the past, helping you to become more self-aware and bring what is unconscious into consciousness.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy:

"You have considerable power to construct self-helping thoughts, feelings and actions as well as to construct self-defeating behaviours. You have the ability, if you use it, to choose healthy instead of unhealthy thinking, feeling and acting.”

Albert Ellis

The idea behind Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is that our thoughts and behaviours influence each other:

By changing the way we think or behave in a situation, we can change the way we feel about life.

You will learn to monitor your emotional upsets and what triggers them, to identify self-defeating thoughts, to see the connections between beliefs, feelings and behaviour, to look at the evidence for and against these thoughts and beliefs, and to think in a way that is more realistic and less negative.

I use this type of therapy with children and young people in particular.

It is also beneficial for short term therapy.

Creative Counselling

"When we work from a Creative Counselling approach, we prioritize our clients' preferences, placing them at the core of the work and meeting them where they are...we give expression, movement, a voice, a shape, a symbol, a metaphor and colour to a client's experience, bringing it to life in a way that often words alone cannot."

Tanja Sharpe.

Creative Counselling combines talking therapy with creative interventions.

Clients can often feel stuck in a cycle and are unable to find the words to express how they are feeling or make sense of their experiences.

By working creatively I provide opportunities for clients to make the unconscious conscious, through seeing, experiencing, sensing and feeling.

I do this by working therapeutically with sand, clay and colour and by using cards, symbols, nesting dolls, stories and metaphors.

"It's okay not to be okay as long as you're not giving up.”
